Learn how to make an origami heart bookmark with simple paper folds! These cute bookmarks are perfect for Valentine’s Day gifts and book lovers.

origami bookmark heart

There’s something dangerously charming about tiny paper crafts.

You sit down thinking you’ll make one little bookmark, and suddenly there are fourteen scattered around the house in different colors because apparently every book now deserves accessories.

That’s exactly what happens with this origami heart bookmark.

It’s easy, low stress, ridiculously cute, and one of those projects that makes people immediately say, “WAIT. Show me how you made that.”

Which honestly is my favorite kind of craft.

I also love that these heart bookmarks are useful instead of just sitting around collecting dust. They slide right over the corner of a page with a little pocket in the back, so they actually stay put while looking adorable at the same time.

And yes, they’re perfect for Valentine’s Day.

You can tuck them into library books, add them to cards, surprise your mom with one inside a favorite novel, or make a pile for friends, teachers, and fellow book lovers. They’re especially fun for kids because decorating them is honestly half the fun.

origami heart bookmark

The best part? You only need paper and a few minutes.

No hot glue gun.
No glitter explosion.
No crafting meltdown.

Just a simple fold-by-fold project that somehow turns a square piece of paper into a sweet little heart shape bookmark.

Honestly, origami feels a little magical every single time.

Choosing Paper for Heart Bookmarks

You can absolutely use regular origami paper for this project, but slightly thicker paper tends to hold up better if the bookmark gets moved in and out of books often.

The basic idea is simple: start with a square piece of paper and cut it in half to create a rectangle.

That rectangle shape matters because the ratio helps create the final design correctly. A 2:1 ratio works especially well for these bookmarks and keeps the finished project sturdy without feeling bulky.

My favorite size is 15 cm (6″ square) paper because it creates heart bookmarks that fit nicely over book corners without sliding around constantly.

heart bookmark

And if you want to make them extra cute? Decorate them afterward. Add:

  • stickers
  • doodles
  • funny faces
  • Valentine’s Day sayings
  • tiny messages
  • markers
  • conversation heart phrases

You can even personalize them with names or little notes before gifting them.

Honestly, once people realize how easy these are, they start making them constantly.

Why People Love This Bookmark

One of my favorite things about this origami heart bookmark is that it looks impressive without actually being difficult.

This isn’t one of those paper crafts requiring twelve hundred confusing diagrams and emotional resilience.

It’s beginner friendly.
It’s relaxing.
And the folding process is surprisingly satisfying.

You basically watch a flat rectangle slowly become a heart shape right in your hands.

Also, unlike some paper crafts, these actually get used.

They slip neatly over book corners, stay secure while reading, and make every book feel a little happier. They’re especially cute tucked inside romance novels, journals, planners, cookbooks, or favorite childhood stories.

And during Valentine’s Day? They’re honestly perfect.

You can pair them with candy, books, or handwritten notes for a sweet inexpensive gift that still feels thoughtful and personal.

Tips Before You Start

A few quick things help this project turn out cleaner:

  • Make each fold carefully so the edges line up evenly.
  • Press firmly or use a bone folder to create a sharp crease.
  • Don’t use paper that’s overly thick or stiff.
  • A square piece of paper creates the cleanest final result.
  • Add stickers after finishing instead of during the folding process.

You can also experiment with patterned paper, metallic paper, or soft pastel shades depending on the occasion.

Personally, I love the classic red and pink versions for Valentine’s Day, but bright colors and playful patterns look adorable year-round too. Get started below!

Make this easy edible slime recipe with instant pudding and cornstarch! It’s stretchy, squishy, taste-safe, and ridiculously fun for kids to make.

edible slime

I think we can all agree the internet has gotten a little unhinged over slime.

At first it was classic glue slime with Borax. Then fluffy slime happened. Then glitter slime. Then cloud slime. Then suddenly every child on Earth wanted to spend their afternoons making mysterious stretchy substances in the kitchen.

And honestly? I get it.

Slime is ridiculously satisfying.

But if you have younger kids, regular slime recipes can feel a little stressful because somebody inevitably tries to lick the slime approximately seven seconds into the activity.

Which brings us to edible slime.

This recipe is one of my favorite sensory play ideas because it’s easy, weirdly soothing, and made with edible ingredients you probably already have sitting in your kitchen. It’s soft, stretchy, squishy, and somewhere between slime and playdough depending on how much corn starch you add.

And yes — technically you can eat it.

edible slime recipe

Now before anybody gets too excited, let me clarify something important: this is not what I’d call delicious edible slime.

It tastes mostly like vanilla pudding mixed with cornstarch . . . because that’s basically what it is.

But honestly? That’s kind of perfect.

Unlike some other slime recipes made with marshmallow, gummy bears, or Starbursts, this version isn’t so sugary that kids immediately try to devour the entire batch. It’s more “taste safe” than “dessert.”

And as someone who has watched children attempt to consume craft supplies with shocking confidence, I appreciate that.

One thing I really love about this recipe is how simple it is. You only need a few simple ingredients, and there’s no complicated cooking process or candy thermometers involved.

Just pudding mix, corn starch, and warm water.

That’s it.

You can also customize the slime using different pudding flavors or a few drops of food coloring if you want brighter batches. Vanilla, cheesecake, banana cream, chocolate, pistachio . . . honestly there are a lot of fun possibilities.

jell o slime

I’ve even seen viral slime recipes online using melted marshmallow in a microwave safe bowl with vegetable oil and food coloring for super stretchy slime. Some people also make candy slime with gummy bears or melted Starbursts.

Those recipes are definitely fun, but I personally like this version because it’s less sticky, less messy, and easier for younger kids to help make.

Plus it comes together fast.

Tips for Making Edible Slime

Measure Carefully

Corn starch is what controls the texture, so adding too much too quickly can make the slime stiff instead of stretchy.

Stir Slowly at First

When you first mix the pudding and water together, it’s going to look suspiciously gross.

Trust the process.

Once you continue to combine and knead, the texture starts transforming into actual slime.

slime you can eat

Use Your Hands

Eventually the slime becomes too thick for a spoon, and that’s when using your hands works best.

It’s messy. It’s weird. It’s fun.

Adjust the Texture

If the slime feels too sticky, add a little more cornstarch.

If it feels too dry, add tiny amounts of warm water until it softens again.

Store It Properly

You can keep leftovers in an airtight container for a short time, though this slime is definitely best fresh.

Because this recipe uses edible ingredients, it doesn’t last nearly as long as traditional slime or playdough.

Why Kids Love Edible Slime

Honestly? Because it feels rebellious.

You spend years teaching kids NOT to eat slime, then suddenly hand them slime they technically can taste.

That’s peak childhood excitement.

This recipe is also fantastic for sensory play because the texture changes as you stretch, squish, knead, and pull it apart. It’s soothing, tactile, and surprisingly relaxing even for adults.

And unlike some marshmallow slime recipes that require melting candy in a microwave safe bowl with vegetable oil, this version is simple enough for beginners.

edible slime jello

Which is honestly part of the appeal.

No fancy supplies. No stress. Just weird kitchen fun. Get the printable recipe card below:

Make this easy clear slime recipe with just a few ingredients! This stretchy, glossy slime is perfect for glitter, charms, and fun mix-ins.

clear slime

There’s something about clear slime that immediately turns people into slime goblins.

You poke it once and suddenly you’re sitting there stretching it, squishing it, holding it up to the light, and wondering why it’s so ridiculously satisfying.

I honestly think this might be one of the coolest slime recipes because it looks almost like liquid glass once it settles. And unlike fluffy slime or cloud slime, this version lets you SEE everything inside it — which makes the mix-in possibilities way more fun.

Glitter? Amazing.
Tiny charms? Adorable.
Foam beads? Weirdly satisfying.
Mini ocean scenes? Honestly kind of mesmerizing.

And the best part is that this recipe is super simple.

If you’ve never made slime before, this is actually a great beginner project because there are only a few ingredients involved. You don’t need fancy crafting skills, and the whole thing comes together pretty quickly once you get the hang of it.

crystal clear slime

Now I do want to warn you about one thing: fresh clear slime is NOT immediately crystal clear.

At first it usually looks cloudy because of all the tiny air bubbles created while mixing and kneading. This is completely normal. If you let the slime sit in an airtight container for a day or two, those bubbles slowly rise out and the slime becomes much more transparent.

Basically, the slime has to calm down emotionally before it reaches its full potential.

One thing I love about this slime is how customizable it is. You can leave it plain for that glossy glass-like look, or turn it into a whole sensory experience with fun add-ins.

Some cute ideas:

  • iridescent glitter
  • tiny beads
  • sequins
  • mini erasers
  • faux snow
  • confetti
  • gold leaf
  • ocean-themed charms

Just don’t go too wild immediately or your beautiful clear slime turns into a mystery swamp very fast. Ask me how I know.

How to Make Sure You’re Slime is Clear

Stir Slowly

If you mix aggressively, you create more air bubbles — which means cloudier slime.

Slow stirring helps keep the slime clearer from the beginning.

Use the Right Contact Solution

Your contact lens solution needs to contain boric acid or the slime won’t activate properly. This is the ingredient that reacts with the glue to form the slime texture.

Not all brands work equally well, so check the label before starting.

Kneading Helps A LOT

At first the slime might feel sticky or stringy, but kneading really helps everything come together.

Most slime recipes look questionable before they suddenly become actual slime. Trust the process a little!

Store It Properly

This slime dries out surprisingly fast if left uncovered.

An airtight container or baggie helps keep the texture stretchy and smooth much longer. And if the slime starts getting stiff later, a tiny bit of water or extra glue can sometimes help soften it again.

Why Kids Love Clear Slime

Honestly? Because it looks cool.

The glossy transparent finish makes it feel different from regular slime, and kids love being able to customize it with decorations and sensory mix-ins.

It also has a stretchier, jigglier texture compared to fluffy slime, which makes it extra satisfying to squish and pull apart.

And yes, adults absolutely end up playing with it too.

No judgment here.
