Spooky season is officially here, and you know what that means: it’s time to pull out the orange and black supplies and craft our way into Halloween! 🎃

I don’t know about you, but the second September rolls around, my brain flips the switch straight to pumpkins, candy, and all things creepy-cute.

This year, perler beads have totally stolen the show in my Halloween crafting sessions. My niece and I have been making little bats, ghosts, and pumpkins nonstop, but we wanted to take it a step further.

Instead of sticking with flat designs, we decided to go 3D! The result is two adorable jack o’ lantern perler projects that are as fun to make as they are to display.

jack o lantern perler beads

First up is a jack o’ lantern votive holder. Pop a flameless tealight inside, and suddenly you’ve got a glow that feels equal parts cozy and spooky.

Then there’s the mini perler bead box, which is perfect for stashing a handful of candy corn, a tiny toy, or even just adding some playful charm to your Halloween décor.

What I love most is that these projects are simple enough to make with kids but still look impressive when they’re done. They’re festive, functional, and just plain fun – exactly what Halloween crafting should be.

So grab those perler beads, fire up the iron, and let’s make some jack o’ lantern magic together. Who’s ready to get crafty?

Box with Lid

You’ll want to make ONE side with the face (135 orange, 34 black beads) and THREE of the plain orange sides (175 beads each). For the box sides, you’ll use a total of 660 orange and 34 black beads.

Jack O Lantern box Sides

The top and bottom take 324 orange and 56 green beads.

Jack o lantern top bottom and stem

The box is very easy to assemble! The two portions of the stem are inserted together into the hole in the top of the box.

Votive Holder

These votive holders are so dang fun, and they really glow! You’re going to need (for one) 514 orange, 8 green, 87 cheddar, and 25 black beads.

It’s easiest to assemble by placing the face down on your work surface. Insert the sides and the bottom into the face. Then push the back onto the sides and bottom. It’s finished and ready for an LED candle.

haunted house embroidery design

If your Halloween aesthetic leans more “cute spooky” than “blood-curdling horror,” this haunted house embroidery is calling your name. Like . . . softly. From the attic. With little ghost hands.

This Home Sweet (Haunted) Home embroidered art is perfect if you’re the type who decorates for Halloween with potion bottles, spell books, and maybe a tasteful skull or two.

It’s handmade, it’s cozy, it’s spooky without screaming. And the best part? It gives your fabric scraps a new lease on (after)life.

Home Sweet Haunted Home Halloween Embroidery

I love a good embroidery project because it’s basically crafting and stress relief all in one. Bonus points if you can do it while binge-watching your favorite Halloween movies (don’t worry, no judgment if it’s Hocus Pocus on repeat).

This project combines a little cross stitch, a little applique, and a whole lot of charm. Whether you hang it in a hoop or frame it up like the spooky art gallery piece it is, you’re gonna want to keep it up well past Halloween.

So grab your floss and fabric scraps, and prepare to stitch something boo-tiful. This haunted house might not scare your neighbors, but it will impress your crafty coven.

Equipment

  • Embroidery hoop 7-inch
  • Scalloped fabric shears optional

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Start by cross-stitching the top words "home sweet" with two strands of embroidery floss.
"Home Sweet" embroidered in black thread
  • Cut out your pattern and tape it onto your fabric to use as spacer for the bottom letters. Line everything up and cross-stitch the bottom word "home."
Haunted house pattern on top of linen
  • For your applique pieces, first trace the shapes onto the paper side of your interfacing. Put the interfacing, paper side up, onto the back of your fabric, and press with a hot, dry iron.
Cut out the shape (I used some scallop fabric shears on the bottom of the roof, but that is completely optional).
Ironing a ghost pattern onto white fabric
  • Peel the paper backing off all of the appliques.
Peeling the paper backing off of the ghost
  • To help me line up all of the house pieces, I placed them on top of the pattern and used small pieces of tape to hold them together.
Taping all the pattern pieces onto the paper pattern
  • Bring the house over to your linen fabric, line it up, and iron the edges. Try not to iron over the tape. Once you have gotten the edges secure, remove the tape and iron over the whole house.
    Ironing over the pattern pieces
  • Iron the remaining pieces onto the linen.
house, bat, and ghosts ironed onto the linen
  • Transfer the other elements of the design onto the linen. I like to use dressmaker's carbon paper that can be found at the fabric store. Just sandwich it in between the pattern and your project and trace over it. The design will transfer so you can embroider over it.
Transferring the pattern onto the linen with carbon paper
  • Stitch around all of your applique pieces with a running stitch and one strand of embroidery floss. For the windows, I just stitched the detail on and didn't worry about stitching around the entire shape.
Finish by removing from the hoop and placing in a frame (iron if necessary).

Notes

Step 1: Cross-stitching on linen can be a bit tricky at first because it’s not quite as stiff as Aida cloth (which is what you’d typically use for cross stitch).
If you have poor eyesight or you’ve never cross-stitched before, you might try using some Aida cloth instead. Aida cloth is perfect for beginners . . . plus you can buy other colors if you want to change this project up a little bit.

Make adorable jack o’ lantern jars with tissue paper and Mod Podge! This beginner-friendly Halloween craft is perfect for glowing decor – no carving required.

Skills Required: Beginner. You will apply tissue paper to a jar using Mod Podge and cutting paper. It helps to have experience with decoupage medium, but that isn’t required. Kids or adults can do this project.

pumpkin mason jars

Can we all agree that jack o’ lanterns are one of the best parts of Halloween? But let’s be real – carving pumpkins gets messy fast. That’s why I’m obsessed with these DIY jack o’ lantern jars!

They’re super easy to make with Mod Podge and tissue paper, and they give off that same spooky glow without any of the gourd guts.

Imagine lining your walkway or adorning your dining room table with these glowing mason jars, each one twinkling with its own little light.

It’s a simple project: you’ll decoupage colorful tissue paper onto the jars, craft a cute pumpkin face, and top it off with a handmade witch hat. Sounds fun, right?

mason jar jack o lanterns

And if you’re thinking you might not be crafty enough to pull this off, don’t worry! I’ve got you covered with step-by-step instructions and even a free printable mini witch hat template to make everything as easy as pie (pumpkin pie, to be exact!).

Ready to make your own jack o’ lanterns? Let’s turn those old jars into Halloween decor.

Whether you light them up with battery-operated tea lights or just use them as decoration, these jack o’ lantern jar pumpkins are guaranteed to be a hit this Halloween season!

Gather These Supplies

  • Mason jars
  • Orange tissue paper
  • Mod Podge (Glossy)
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Black cardstock – or color of your choice
  • Hot glue
  • Glue Dots
  • LED tealights (optional)

Free Jack O’ Lantern & Hat Templates Here: Feel free to resize the templates as needed depending on the size of mason jar you are using.

Tips and Thoughts for This Project

You could use any color of tissue paper for this project – how about purple or green? For mine, I primarily used some of the bright orange but also added a few pieces of the darker orange.

These can hold candy, but if you put tealights in them, use LED. That way you can put the hats on with no risk of fire. They look so cute lit up!

Dry Time 1 hour
Total Time 2 hours 15 minutes

Instructions

  • Cut some small 1” x 1” squares from some sheets of tissue paper. I used a bright orange and a darker orange for some variety. To make it easier, fold your tissue paper a few times, cut a 1” strip and cut 1” squares from it.
  • Using your brush, add a layer of Mod Podge onto the jar and begin laying out your tissue paper squares. Brush on a layer of Mod Podge on top of the tissue paper squares to secure it onto the mason jar. Repeat the whole process until you have covered the whole mason jar with tissue paper.
    Decoupage Tissue Paper
  • Dry the mason jars upside down on top of some parchment paper or plastic to protect your work surface.
Dry the Mason Jars upside down
  • Cut a pumpkin face (the one I used – two triangle eyes and a smiling mouth – template is provided if needed) and attach it to the mason jar using Mod Podge. You can also use different expressions for a custom look!
    Attach the Pumpkin Face
  • Add a layer of Mod Podge over the pumpkin face details and leave that to dry as well.
Add a Layer of Mod Podge over the Pumpkin Face
  • Cut out the paper witch hat template with a die-cutting machine, or you can trace and cut it onto a piece of black cardstock.
    Paper Witch Hat Parts
  • Roll the triangle shape into a cone, and glue the flap under using hot glue. You may have to hold down the seam for a few moments until the hot glue dries to prevent it from unraveling.
    Assemble the Paper Witch Hat
  • Fold the trapezoid shapes up on the inside of the brim, and glue those parts to the opening of the cone (make sure they are inside the cone so they are not visible).
Glue the Brim to the Top
  • Now, all that’s left to do is put the witch hat on the mason jar! I used some glue dots to hold the witch hats in place as I had some remote-controlled battery tea lights, but you can forego this step,

Make this glowing DIY skull decor in just minutes using an apothecary jar and a few Halloween basics. It’s spooky, stylish, and so easy to create!

diy skull decor

You know those last-minute Halloween decorating urges – when you suddenly need to add one more spooky touch to your space? That’s exactly how this DIY skull decor came to be.

A good friend and I were wandering the aisles at Michaels (as one does), and we both stopped in our tracks when we spotted this cool apothecary jar. “Okay, that would make an awesome Halloween centerpiece,” I said, and just like that, the wheels started turning.

We found the perfect skull to go inside, added a little paint for drama, and before we knew it – bam! A creepy-but-chic skull display that takes just minutes to put together.

diy skull decor ideas

This is one of those crafts that looks way more impressive than it is complicated (my favorite kind). If you’re short on time but still want a handmade touch in your Halloween decor, you’re going to love this one. It takes just a few minutes.

Okay, maybe more than just a few minutes, but it really doesn’t take long at all.

I really love this spooky decor and am impressed that we came up with it so quickly. Here’s what you’re going to need to get started.

Gather These Supplies

  • Apothecary jar – ours was 18.5″
  • Skull – we got this at Michaels too; he has a removable back skull and a votive fits inside
  • Decorative stone granules – in the floral section
  • FolkArt Multi-Surface Paint, Pure Black
  • 1/4″ stencil tape
  • Paintbrush
  • LED votive (for the inside of the skull)

The glow from the inside of the skull is so perfect for the holiday. Perfectly spooky! Get the printable how to card below:
